Our Corporate Social Responsibility Policy
We operate in a highly regulated industry and recognise that attached to the grant of our licences is the primary obligation to ensure the responsible operation of our premises at all times for customers, staff and the wider community. It is for this reason, which goes to the core of our business, and under the responsibility of the Board, that we strive to ensure that corporate social responsibility underpins our business operation at every level.
The Licensing Act 2003 has four licensing objectives:
- the prevention of crime and disorder
- public safety
- the prevention of public nuisance
- the protection of children from harm
Our Operating Schedules contain measures to meet all of these. Where required, equipment is in place and staff are briefed on a daily basis to ensure expected standards are met if not exceeded.
The Bars Department is an associate member of the Portman Group, promoting responsible drinking, and undertakes that all promotional activity for alcohol will comply with the Group's code.
We are always mindful of our duty of care as a retailer of alcohol and implement, through training and use of Drink Aware produced materials, initiatives aimed at the issues of under-age drinking and responsible drinking.
Ongoing training programmes help staff identify potential problems and deal with them before they happen.
We take our environmental responsibilities seriously believing that responsible environmental activity is in the interests of both our business and the communities in which we operate.
As an example all our waste glass and cardboard is recycled. Our overall policy is to seek continuous improvement in environmental matters and to minimize our impact on the environment.
