July Hospitality Newsletter

Website Launch - www.HAatbath.co.uk

Welcome to the July edition of Hospitality on Campus, the newsletter that keeps you up to date with all our latest news and events. To see a pdf version of this newsletter please click here.

1st July 2008 sees the launch of the new Hospitality and Accommodation website - www.HAatbath.co.uk. Working closely with University of Bath web services and print unit we have put together a new improved website for our many services. The new vibrant look and easy navigation will make it easier to find whatever information you need.

The website is split up into our four main areas of business – Beds, Events, Weddings & Banquets and Hospitality. It also includes a staff section which will not only be used for the recruitment of new staff to our department but also as a tool to assist in the training and development of our existing staff.
Our aim is to increase our commercial activity and to bring new business to the University. This new website and our new visual identity is the first step of our strategy. The website is packed with new information and features:

FEEDBACK ONLINE - we now have a feedback system online so you can share your comments or suggestions about any of our services and they will be directly sent to the
appropriate team leader.

MENUS ONLINE - All of our outlets now have downloadable menus so whether you want to know the price of a cocktail in the Parade Bar or the price of a Bagel in the Blues Café, simply visit the website!

BROCHURES - Our new wedding and conference brochures are available in pdf format to download.

Competition

As part of our launch we are holding an online competition on our website. We have some great prizes on offer such as a Full Suspension Mountain Bike, a two night stay in Polden Court and a meal for two in Wessex Restaurant. The competition involves answering some quick questions about the services that our department provides. All the answers can be found by searching our new website. All correct entries will be entered into a draw and selected at random on 01/09/08.

Healthy Recipe - Stuffatina alla romana

Ingredients
4 tsps/20ml olive oil
3 Rashers/42g streaky bacon
3lb/1362g rump beef steak - raw and lean
250ml red wine
100g tomato puree
240g celery
1 tbsp/10ml fresh lemon juice
4 cloves/12g garlic
1 cube/7g beef stock cubes
1 tsp/2g freshly ground black pepper

This Roman beef stew is truly delicious and its long cooking time deserves a big pot full. It freezes well, so no need to worry about any extra portions.

Cut the bacon into small pieces, cut the beef into 1 inch cubes and crush the garlic.

Heat the olive oil in a large heavy pan and gently fry the bacon until golden.

Add the beef and fry over a high heat, stirring frequently, until browned.

Pour the wine over the beef and bring to the boil. Keep it bubbling until the liquid has reduced by half.

Finely chop 3 sticks of the celery and add to the pot. Stir in the tomato puree, lemon juice, garlic and black pepper.

Add the stock cube to 1 pint of boiling water to make a stock. Pour enough of this into the pot to just cover the meat, and set the rest aside.

Cover the pot and gently simmer for three hours, checking once in a while and topping up with more of the stock if necessary - to keep meat covered.

30 minutes before the end of the cooking time, cut the rest of the celery into 2-inch pieces, blanch in boiling water for 5 minutes, drain and add to the stew.

Serve piping hot with tagliatelle.
