Green Tourism Gold
We are proud to announce that we have recently received a gold award in the Green
Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS) – the first University department to gain a gold in the UK. The GTBS
is the leading sustainable tourism certification scheme in the UK. Businesses are assessed by a
qualified grading advisor against a rigorous set of criteria, covering a range of areas such as
energy and water efficiency, waste management and, biodiversity. Businesses are awarded a
bronze, silver or gold depending on how well they meet the criteria.
The scheme has more then 1700 members in the UK and is growing at a fast rate. If you would

A Lot Of Coffee
We would like to thank everyone that came to our coffee taster day on 4 December. Over
4000 cups of coffee were tasted. We also had a great response to our online survey with over 500
people taking part. The results made it clear that our customers have strong opinions regarding
brands, ethical sourcing, taste, price and the range of products to be offered. We will take all of
these factors into consideration in our future initiatives and supplier selection.
Customer Comments - A chance to have your say
As a member of staff at the University I purchase coffee from DolcHe Vita every week day
morning. The amount of waste generated from paper cups is huge. Is there nothing that can be done
about this?
D, August 08
Dear D,
We acknowledge that there is a lot of wastage from packing, not just paper cups but with
other products such as sandwich boxes and other takeaway containers. Since receiving your comment
we have been working hard on solutions to reduce wastage. The article below highlights two of our
new initiatives to help reduce our impact on the environment.
A Mug Is For Life, Not Just For Christmas
Did you know the UK produces 420 million tonnes of waste every year – enough to
fill the Albert Hall in London every hour. Hospitality at Bath understands the effect that
packaging has on the environment which is why we have started to introduce some great new schemes.
Thermal Mugs
The amount of disposable cups being thrown away each day on Campus is a growing concern, so
this January we are introducing our new stainless steel thermal mugs which will be sold in all of
our outlets across Campus. By reusing one of these mugs at all of our outlets it will help
reduce the amount of paper cups being thrown away each day. We encourage you to bring these mugs
everytime you buys a coffee at our outlets. We will be selling them at £4.25 which is cost price.
As an introductory offer every customer that buys a mug will get a free coffee!
Packaging
We have recently made the commitment to use bio-degradable packaging for our takeaway salads
and baguettes. Although this packaging is more expensive we will not be passing any price increases
onto our customers. We have also introduced ‘Resource’ disposable cups for when you forget your
thermal mug in all of our outlets. For every takeaway coffee purchased in our outlets a donation is
given to the charity ‘Coolearth’ who use the money to preserve rainforests. We have already raised
enough to save one acre of rainforest. If you would like to learn more about the project please

January Healthy Recipe
Have a healthy new year, why not mix up a few delicious and healthy smoothies for your
friends and family...
You'll need:
200g tub of natural low-fat yoghurt
3 medium-sized bananas
1 handful strawberries or other fruit

Mystery Customers
Every month our outlets are visited by a mystery customer to ensure they offer a high
standard of service. We have set ourselves a minimum target of meeting 70% of the criteria. Each

All of our outlets passed the mystery customer visits and picked up some useful information that they can use to improve their services. To view the reports visit the Hospitality pages of this website.
