Food For The Brain Roadshow - 12 - 14 May
To create awareness of the need for heathly eating we will be running a Food For The Brain stall that will be handing out nutritional information and advice on living a healthy lifestyle. Our Food For The Brain stall will be in the following outlets:

12 May - Claverton Rooms
13 May - Level 1 Café
14 May - Blues Café

The stall will give you the chance to taste a healthy smoothie along with an opportunity to give your views on the food you would like to see on Campus.

World Fair Trade Day - 9 May
World Fair Trade Day is on Saturday 9 May and due to the success of Fairtrade Fortnight when we gained Fairtrade status as a University we once again have some great offers aimed at raising awareness. World Fair Trade Day has grown into a global festival of Fair Trade with events organized worldwide, on and around the second  Saturday of May. The following offers will be available on the day:

Library Vending Machine - 50% off all hot drinks, 9 - 10 May*
Parade Bar - Free FairTrade Bar with every large hot drink purchased*
Plug Bar - Free FairTrade coffee tasting, 12pm - 4pm*

Hello,
Over the revision and exam period I have found myself staying on Campus until the early hours of the morning - like many other students. I do not feel that there is an adequate food available in the evening on Campus. The Parade Bar is the only place to get hot food in the evening and all you can get is pizza! We need more choice! - Will

Dear Will,
Thank you for your comments regarding the food service during the evenings. In response to recent comments the Parade Bar has introduced some evening specials available from 7pm to compliment the current food menu:

Monday - Beef stew with crusty bread £3.95
Tuesday - Mexican food and a drink £4.75
Wednesday - Chicken stroganoff £3.95
Thursday - Lamb rogan josh £3.95
Friday - Beef in black bean sauce £3.95
Saturday - Penne bolognaise with crusty bread £3.95
Sunday - Chicken Korma with naan bread £3.95
 
May Healthy Recipe
Cannellini bean and red onion risotto
Serves 6
Ready in about 25 minutes

Ingredients
1 tbsp olive oil
1 large red onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
4 sprigs thyme
500g risotto rice
200ml dry white wine
1 litre hot vegetable stock
800g tinned cannellini beans
2 tbsp finely grated parmesan
1 pinch freshly ground black pepper

1. Heat the oil in a large pan and gently cook the onion, garlic and thyme for 5 minutes until softened. Add the rice, stir for a few seconds then pour in the wine.

2. Bubble rapidly until the wine evaporates, then slowly add the stock in batches, letting the rice absorb the liquid each time before adding more. Add the beans about halfway through - keep the heat fairly high and the whole process should take about 20 minutes.

3. Season with pepper. Once all the liquid has been absorbed and the grains are soft and creamy, divide the risotto between bowls. Top each serving with a sprinkling of Parmesan and a good grinding of black pepper and serve swiftly.
