Fairtrade Fortnight 2010

The Big Swap

feb-10-newsletter-side1-current

This month we celebrate our Fairtrade university status for the second year and we will be hosting Fairtrade Fortnight with the Students’ Union to promote fair and ethical trading.

Fairtrade are asking the nation to swap their usual consumables with Fairtrade products. The Big Swap runs for two whole weeks and you are encouraged to swap your usual stuff for Fairtrade stuff: your usual bananas for Fairtrade bananas, your usual tipple for Fairtrade wine, and your usual cuppa for a Fairtrade cuppa.

This means that every time you go shopping, you can use your wallet to make a stand.

When you register your swap www.fairtrade.org.uk/thebigswap your purchase will be proof that the people of the UK want producers in the developing world to get a fairer deal.

On campus, Fairtrade Fortnight begins with our Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. We will be providing free tea on the main parade because, however you take your cuppa, it's all the more satisfying knowing that the people who grew and picked it are getting an honest deal for their hard work. There’ll also be a selection of other Fairtrade products to whet your appetite.

The campaign is about making as much noise as possible and we invite you to join us on Monday 22 February 12- 2pm to launch the beginning of Fairtrade Fortnight with a week of events held on campus.

Promotions will be held in the Hospitality at Bath outlets for the full fortnight and Fresh shop will be offering discounts on selected Fairtrade products to encourage swaps.
