March Newsletter
Welcome to the March edition of the Hospitality & Accommodation on Campus
newsletter.
Sustainability
Hospitality & Accommodation at Bath aim to provide a sustainable service as part of
University life on campus.
We want to do what’s best for our customers and tackle some of the bigger issues facing our
department based on shared values and will be focusing on issues concerning community, environment
and health.
Community – ethical procurement and our continued support of Fairtrade. Thank you for
backing our programme of events during Fairtrade Fortnight 2010; the highlight being Isabel
Antonio, Fairtrade producer of nuts who gave an honest, impassioned and moving talk on how her
community became Fairtrade farmers in 2003. The people of her village now have greater
financial security, independence, better education and nutrition.
Environment – waste management and working towards ISO 14001. Our action plan for
sustainability includes the promotion of our Energy Challenge; reducing our energy consumption in
accommodation, reusing our cooking oils for bio fuel and recycling all hospitality waste into
compost as part of our Zero Waste programme.
Health – looking after the health and wellbeing of our customers to ensure our food offers
high nutritional value, with menus designed to meet Food for the Brain standards, as an accredited
University.
We aim to provide a level of service we can maintain, creating a positive environment on
campus for our customers and staff.
Food Direct - The on campus food delivery service
Last month we held an on campus food tasting with our existing Food Direct customers to offer
them the opportunity to view the changes to the menu and service. Customers were delighted to
be part of the decision making process and have provided us with valuable feedback to help design a
service to meet your needs and exceed your expectations.
Feedback showed a positive response to our environmentally friendly tea and coffee service
that’s designed to reduced costs and impact on the environment. You can decide whether you
want to use your own cups, have compostable cups provided or else order tableware.
Many thanks to all our customers for attending and we look forward to introducing the new
service campus wide in May.
Customer Notice: One water, love One
Fantastic news as we have this month achieved target raising funds for our first One water
Playpump®. Through the sale of One water on campus we are now able to install a new Playpump
system to bring free clean drinking water to children, families and communities in Africa. On
behalf of AHS and One, we would like to thank everyone at the University who have supported this
excellent cause.
